First-Gen Mustang Restoration Done Right
At Mohnson Fab, first-generation Mustangs are more than just another project — they're a specialty. Mustang owners from Norfolk to Fort Dodge bring their first-gen cars to us because we've invested in a dedicated 1965–1970 Mustang unibody chassis fixture — these cars deserve precision structural work, not guesswork. Whether your Mustang needs torque box replacement, full floor pan work, or a complete unibody rebuild, every measurement is verified against factory specifications.
From straightforward rust repair to ground-up restoration, we handle the metal and body work that brings these cars back to life. Cowl repair, shock tower replacement, frame rail work, apron panels — if it's structural or sheet metal on a first-gen Mustang, we've done it. Our goal is always the same: get the structure dead-straight so everything else falls into place.

Purpose-Built Tooling for Mustang Unibodies
The dedicated Mustang unibody chassis fixture is the foundation of our first-gen Mustang work. The car mounts directly to the fixture at factory reference points, giving us repeatable, accurate positioning throughout the entire repair. Combined with our Continental UMS measuring system, we can verify dimensions at every stage — before, during, and after structural work.
Structural panels are TIG or MIG welded depending on the application, and every weld is ground and finished to match the surrounding metal. When shaping replacement panels or forming patch sections, we use the English wheel and power hammer to achieve the compound curves these cars demand. The result is metalwork that looks like it belongs — because it's built to the same standards as the original.

Every First-Gen Mustang, Every Body Style
We work on all 1965 through 1970 Mustangs — coupes, fastbacks, and convertibles. Whether it's a numbers-matching restoration or a restomod build, the structural and body work process is the same: factory-spec accuracy on professional equipment. We see Mustangs from across the Midwest, with owners driving in from Sioux City, Omaha, Lincoln, Sioux Falls, and Des Moines to take advantage of the dedicated fixturing most shops simply don't have.
