    Custom Fabrication for One-of-a-Kind Builds

Hot rod fabrication is where craftsmanship meets creativity. Unlike restoration work where you're matching factory specs, hot rod builds require envisioning something new and making it real in steel. At Mohnson Fab, we handle the custom metal fabrication that turns a concept into a rolling piece of art — hand-formed body panels, custom fender work, hood scoops, transmission tunnels, firewalls, and anything else your build demands.

Every hot rod is different, and that's the point. Whether you're building a traditional-style rod, a pro-street machine, or something completely off the wall, we work with you to figure out the metalwork and make it happen. Over 20 years of fabrication experience means we've solved a lot of unusual problems and built a lot of parts that don't exist in any catalog.

    From Concept to Finished Metal

Custom fabrication starts with understanding what you're after — a sketch on a napkin, a reference photo, or sometimes just a description. From there, we develop patterns, form the metal, and fit everything to the car. Our English wheel and power hammer handle the heavy shaping work, the Pullmax takes care of detail forming and edge work, and the metal brake handles straight bends and flanges. For machined components and brackets, we use our milling machine.

TIG welding is the backbone of our custom fabrication work. It gives us the precision and control needed for visible joints, thin materials, and tight-tolerance assemblies. Hot rod builders across Grand Island, Fremont, and the wider Midwest rely on us for this level of detail. Every piece is fit, tacked, checked, adjusted, and then final-welded — because on a custom build, there's no hiding behind a catalog part number.

Hot Rods, Street Rods, and Custom Builds

We work on hot rods, street rods, rat rods, pro-street cars, and custom builds of all kinds. If your project needs hand-formed metalwork — whether it's a full custom body or a single sculpted panel — our Dakota City shop is set up for it. We see builds from across Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota, with hot rod owners making the trip from Sioux City, Omaha, Lincoln, Sioux Falls, and Des Moines because quality custom fabrication is hard to find. When the metalwork matters, it's worth the drive.
