Restoration Metal Work for Classic Vehicles
Classic car restoration demands a different approach than modern collision repair. These vehicles were built with heavier gauge steel, unique forming techniques, and design details that simply don't exist in today's cars. From Vermillion to Yankton, classic car owners trust Mohnson Fab for the metal and body work side of restoration — replacing rotted panels, repairing structural damage, reshaping dented or damaged body work, and fabricating parts that are no longer available.
With over 20 years of experience and formal training at WyoTech, we bring both the technical knowledge and the hands-on skill that vintage vehicles require. Every car that comes through our shop gets the same level of attention, whether it's a barn-find survivor or a concours-level restoration.

Traditional Techniques, Professional Equipment
Restoring classic cars properly means working the metal the way it was originally formed. We use an English wheel, power hammer, and planishing hammer to shape panels with the same compound curves and crowned surfaces the factory achieved. When original panels are beyond saving, we fabricate replacements from scratch — matching the gauge, contour, and character of the original metalwork.
Welding on classic vehicles takes care and experience. We match the welding process to the application — TIG for precision work on thin panels, MIG for structural joints where strength matters most. Panel fit and gap consistency are checked at every stage, because once the metal is right, everything downstream — from body filler to paint — goes smoothly.

Pre-1970 Vehicles from Across the Midwest
Our shop in Dakota City, Nebraska sees a wide variety of classic vehicles. American muscle cars, British sports cars like MGs and Triumphs, Italian exotics, classic trucks, and early postwar automobiles — if it's a vintage vehicle that needs metal or body work, we're equipped to handle it. We've built a reputation that draws classic car owners from Sioux City, Omaha, Sioux Falls, Lincoln, Des Moines, and throughout the tri-state area. Fay Butler-trained metal shaping skills combined with WyoTech technical education means your car is in experienced hands.
